What’s truly remarkable about Chicago’s Vic Mensa is how often he’s aligned himself with something that seemed destined to be bigger and brighter only to time out. Kidz In The Hall had all the makings of a smash Chi-Town rap duo to go big when Vic aligned himself with Naledge’s Brainiac Crew in 2009 until they seemingly stalled out as creatives. Mensa then became the frontman for the jazzy Chicago band Kids These Days who broke through with a “Flashing Lights” cover and a readily acceptable mixtape & EP combo in Traphouse Rock and Hard Times, their biggest flash being a cover of Crucial Conflict’s weed opus “Hay” in “Bud Billiken”.

Then KTD broke up this year. Mensa decided to rip every feature he had given to him including Chance The Rapper’s “Cocoa Butter Kisses” and now we’re here with his full length solo tape Innanetape presented in junction with iLLROOTS. And trust, no expense was turned down in making this with production from Boi-1da, Hit Boy, Christian Rich, Cam (of J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League), Peter Cottontale, DJ Dahi and feature verses from Chance the Rapper, Ab-Soul, BJ The Chicago Kid, Kenna, Rockie Fresh, Lili K, Thundercat and more. Time to give Vic his full due now as a solo rapper and enjoy.
