Sly Stone gets tucked into one those unappreciated corners of funk. He’s a legend, an eccentric who deserves as much credit for dropping off sinister bass lines and crafty lyrics more than others. Yet, on a Monday morning, the main Sly song that remains rattled inside of my brain happens to be “If You Want Me To Stay”.

Doesn’t matter, every Monday I’m humming the track inside of my head and thinking about the rest of the week. You might be doing the same thing after reading this. Sly might be talking about a relationship, a possible breaking but everybody else in the world? We’re just thinking about how in the world are we going to get off the good foot and kick every day coming up square in the face.

It’s the sort of pull you need to get over. That and the bass line here is absolutely beautiful.
