Marijuana Michigan Famer

Want to know how hard it is to get into Michigan’s medical marijuana industry? There’s a limit on how many plants you can grow. And if you’re Edwin Schmieding, you’re thanking your lucky stars that a judge figured you needed a break after growing over 8,000 plants, being found guilty of such a crime and getting a sentence of only two years probation.

The 61-year old, a throat cancer survivor, decided to grow the plants on his farm along with his wife when the feds came knocking. Sympathy from friends and family members of Scmieding send letters to U.S. District Judge Bernard Friedman who according to the AP determined, “This is one that most screams out: This man deserves a break” and granted a high amount of leniency to a first-time offender who merely wanted to help the world.

Now, I’m sure if this had been Detroit and a black kid the story might end a bit differently.
