Jay-Z_KD New Rules

In recent weeks, rumors had been flying around that Jay-Z’s Roc Nation Sports and Creative Artists’ Agency sports management agency partnership was about to acquire an NBA counterpart to stand alongside the WNBA’s Skylar Diggins earlier this year. As the picture above reveals, the deal is now done, and Oklahoma City Thunder power forward Kevin Durant was revealed as the newest member of #NewRules Nation. Jay posted the picture on RocNation’s website first thing yesterday morning while the ink on the paperwork was still drying.

According to Forbes Magazine, it is expected that Creative Artists’ Agency will handle the business side of things, such as contract negotiations (something they won’t have to worry about for a minute, since Durant is still riding out his 5-year, $89 million rookie extension with Oklahoma City), while Roc Nation Sports will handle Durant’s off-the-court interests, including promotional and possibly sponsorship endeavors.

The timing couldn’t be greater for both parties involved. For Shawn Carter, Durant is easily Roc Nation Sports’ biggest acquisition to date and he will likely attract more interested athletes to Jay-Z’s growing brand, this on the cusp of Jay’s upcoming Magna Carta Holy Grail project on its way next month. For Durant, he’ll be among great company with other young talent such as Diggins, Robinson Cano, and Geno Smith. The partnership is a sure-fire confidence booster for the former Texas Longhorn and NBA All-Star, especially following KD’s struggle to adapt to the pressure of leading the Oklahoma City Thunder alone in this year’s NBA Playoffs.
