Event Participant - Performance

Almost two weeks ago, I caught a re-airing of A Tribe Called Quest’s Beats, Rhymes & Life documentary and once more fell into watching the full doc after only missing the first ten minutes. It’s what happens when you came of musical age during the mid-point of Q-Tip & Tribe’s seminal greatness, certain facts and things you just can’t let go.

Which brings me to this – a more than engaging interview from XXL mainstay Jeff “Chairman” Mao & Q-Tip at the Red Bull Music Academy. For two hours, Tip reflects on producing for Nas, studio sessions, impersonations, rough edits of Kanye West’s “Mama’s Boyfriend” (skip to the 1:37 part) and more obscure and random things. In other words, it’s easily the best two hours to spend on a Saturday evening when you’ve got little else to do.
