Before he was interviewing some of your favorite celebrities and musicians, James Lipton became a legend in another game: pimping.

The interviewer who celebrated Inside The Actor’s Studio‘s 250th episode on Wednesday night says he has no regrets or shame about what he did in Paris. “It was only a few years after the war,” he says. “Paris was different then, still poor. Men couldn’t get jobs and, in the male chauvinist Paris of that time, the women couldn’t get work at all. It was perfectly respectable for them to go into le milieu.”

Of course he doesn’t prefer the term “pimp”, rather “procurer” or “agent” but back then he ran a pretty successful service with a woman who became his good friend. “I don’t believe in buying sex,” he told CBS This Morning. “I think that if you haven’t earned a sexual adventure, you don’t deserve it. I believe that to this day. So, no no no … I didn’t want sex. My Parisian friend, he was much more casual about it. Then two beautiful women approached us and said would you like to see two women make love? I said, I certainly would.”

I can’t imagine the 86-year old interviewer and one of my personal favorite joys on television slapping around women trying to get some dollars and he says in his own words he’d ask Johns if they “would like a personal tour … a sexual exhibition” and everything worked out. Still, can you imagine James effin’ Lipton being a pimp?
