Talib Kweli - Prisoner of Conscious

Over the last few months, Talib Kweli has subtly laid the foundation for his first album in nearly two years. Along the way, listeners and fans alike were treated to a mixtape that was built like an album, a freestyle or two, and even notable guest appearances. All these were appetizers up until Kweli could release the main course – Prisoner of Conscious. With the album set to officially release on Tuesday, Kweli granted Billboard the green light to release a full stream of the project’s deluxe edition for the free.

Loaded with seventeen tracks’ worth of that real hip-hop rappity-rap and bearing features from the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Marsha Ambrosius, Miguel, Curren$y, Busta Rhymes, and more, Prisoner of Conscious may end up being as much of a sleeper hit in 2013 as Kweli’s last outing, Gutter Rainbows, was. However, where Rainbows flew largely under the radar promotion-wise, Prisoner has to its credit strong singles in “Rocket Ships” and “Push Thru,” and the Paid in Full-sampling “Turnt Up” and “Hamster Wheel” might well find themselves right at home in your iTunes.

Talib Kweli’s Prisoner of Conscious album drops Tuesday, May 7th, though you can preorder your copy now on iTunes.
