Talib Kweli - Rocket Ships (f. Busta Rhymes)

Prisoner of Conscious, Talib Kweli’s much anticipated follow-up to his 2011 album Gutter Rainbows, is mere days away. And just to further whet the people’s appetites for what’s to come, Talib has let loose one final leak from the project, “Rocket Ships.”

RZA takes a break from his recent stint in acting and directing to get behind the boards once more, providing a pulsating, drum-driven beat that seems to merge hip-hop with jazz-like improvisational instrumentation, over which Kweli flows damn near non-stop. And Busta Rhymes is present. Not the Busta Rhymes that played backup to Young Money’s Lil’ Twist, but the beast Busta Bus that took over the 2012 BET Hip-Hop Awards Cyphers. It’s admittedly refreshing to hear that Busta still has it.

Talib Kweli’s Prisoner of Conscious album arrives next Tuesday, May 7th. Although if you can’t wait until next week, feel free to pre-order your copy of the album now on iTunes.
