PepsiCo & Mountain Dew have had a busy week dealing with controversy. After removing a Tyler, the Creator ad from its campaign, the soda company announced in a statement that it was discontinuing its partnership with Lil Wayne following his reference to civil rights figure Emmitt Till on a remix of Future’s “Karate Chop”.

In a statement released Friday, the company said Wayne’s “offensive reference to a revered civil rights icon does not reflect the values of our brand.” A publicist for Lil Wayne, Sarah Cunningham states the split was due to “creative differences”. The Till family has not made a statement following Wayne’s dismissal.
