In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Pretty Lights (aka Derek Vincent Smith) announced his plans for bridging EDM and hip-hop together, despite the two being distant cousins of one another thanks to trap. All it took was a conversation with Nas to seal his thoughts, hoping to breathe new life into the creative process between the two genres and someday get on a track with any of his heroes – Jay-Z, Nas and Atmosphere (!)

His upcoming LP A Color Map Of The Sun marks a change for the CO based producer, it’s the first album he’s not releasing under that Radiohead guise of pay-what-you-want downloads or free.99. It’ll be released July 2nd in both physical & digital copy with “Around The Block” serving as the lead single. Another Brooklyn boy, Talib Kweli shows up as the feature guest, his voice sampled throughout the blues laden track before getting its own time to shine around bend but don’t break synthesizers.
