Meet The Bandtastic 4 & Their New LP “Trillmatic”

FullMetalFDot represents the Southwest portion of Houston and like many, gets buried under the muck that is Houston’s ever homogenous rap climpate. His outlook on things comes with a sense of carefree whim, keen on observation before anything else. Which is probably why he steals the show whenever he appears on tracks (see Kyle Hubbard’s “Around The Way” from You’re Not That Special). He even extends himself to be the leader of a band with a quirky name and one of the more ambitious tasks ever set forth – create a jazzy interpolation of Nas’ seminal debut album Illmatic.

Tossing a little Houston spin on things, Trillmatic features ten tracks outlined in the same path that Nas took with his effort only the alternative band takes out most of the edge crafted by the likes of Pete Rock, DJ Premier and others by tossing swaying guitar strings and sweeping drum moves into the gumbo to create a more than relaxed effort. FDot’s verses twist around his life in the SWAT, family, friends and life experiences that make him feel more like a stand in the center pillar of the area, only he doesn’t run with the same sense of angst as his street counterparts.
