Lupe Fiasco Booted From Concert In DC Over Anti-Obama Remarks

Never one to let his tongue remain tied, Lupe Fiasco continued expressing his disappointment with current President Barack Obama in Washington D.C. on Sunday night. His choice words however got him removed from his own show. According to reporter Josh Rogin, the rapper went into an anti-Obama tirade during his set at the Hamilton Live, playing one of his anti-war songs for thirty minutes without moving to the next song. He also remarked on why he didn’t vote for the President who is to be publicly sworn into office for his second term tomorrow morning.

Following his mid-set protest, Fiasco was asked to continue on with his show but refused, prompting security to remove the Chicago rapper from the stage. In related news, Fiasco recently cancelled the followup to his 2012 release Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Pt. I

UPDATE (1.21.2013 1:35 CST): Show promoters HyperVocal have released a statement detailing that Fiasco was not removed for his remarks about the President but rather his stage performance drawing dissatisfaction from the crowd and organizers wanting to move on to the next act.

StartUp RockOn is all about startups helping startups. At Sunday night’s Inauguration Celebration at the Hamilton Live, organizers set out to honor innovative visionaries with grants, accolades and a party worthy of the success we achieved at the RNC and DNC this summer.

Lupe Fiasco performed at this private event, and as you may have read, he left the stage earlier than we had planned. But Lupe Fiasco was not “kicked off stage” for an “anti-Obama rant.” We are staunch supporters of free speech, and free political speech. This was not about his opinions. Instead, after a bizarrely repetitive, jarring performance that left the crowd vocally dissatisfied, organizers decided to move on to the next act.
