Say goodbye to Peter Parker.

As the adage goes “all good things must come to an end;” and after 50 years of slinging web, the 700th issue of The Amazing Spider Man brings the story to an end…with the death of Parker.

While death never feels quite final in comic cannon, (remember when they killed off Professor X and Batman?) fans are up in arms at the seemingly finality of this move.

Parker dies after having his mind swapped and trapped within the decaying Dr. Octopus, his final words a warning to his unlikely successor, “With great power, comes great responsibility.”

Editor Stephen Wacker insists that the story will carry on in spite of Parker’s death; with Dr.Octopus virtually using the memories of Peter to become an “even better” Spider Man. The jury is still out. Here’s to hoping Peter gets a reprieve. One day.
