Legendary Houston figurehead Matt Sonzala has steered some pretty great events in Houston this year. From February’s Red Bull Skooled Tour and his work with SXSW, Sonzala’s contributions to the city has been large.

Today, he’s adding another moment to his growing resume with Hip-Hop The Vote, a free concert at Reggae Hut (4814 Almeda) where its purpose serves two causes. One, it highlights some of the best artists in the city in Doughbeezy, Chingo Bling, The Niceguys & Dat Boi T and presents them to a diverse crowd. Second, it helps the Texans Together Education Fund promote voter registration and to engage young voters and educate them about registering to vote. The concert is the first in a long line of many according to Sonzala who will continue to push until the Voter Registration deadline on October 9th.

KPFT’s ZIN will be the guest speaker and DJ Chill will be on the 1s & 2s. The event will last from 4 to 8 PM and the artists have agreed to performing clean material and nothing suggestive.
