There’s a bubbling monster brewing out of the Carolinas. Driicky Graham might have broken through in the most award way with a meme worthy single in “Snapbacks & Tattoos” but efforts such as “Letter To My Son (Response)” offer a different tale. More heartfelt, more lyrical and definitely more appeasing to those who aren’t willing to immediately buy in off of one radio single. Graham’s first full length release Ya Gotta Start Somewhere finds his buzzing single noticeably omitted but freestyles layered atop Katy Perry’s “Friday Night”, samples of Angry Birds and synth heavy instrumentals present.

How does it all present itself? Right in the same path of slightly carefree, bravado pumped music that the radio could easily clamor up. Graham puts it quite plainly on the Cartune Beats produced “That’s That Nigga”, remarking “Hard work & dedication boost my confidence/Now that I’m poppin my profit it’ll stuck my pockets with/ Dollars so that even Rihanna’ll suck my cockiness/”. If that’s his motion for success then you can’t necessarily judge him, but you sort of want a balance to where cuts like these and “Letter To My Son” can take turns steering his future.
