Over a year ago, Express released a nifty little mixtape Out For The Classics, a stream-of-conscious freebie where the Alief native tackled the standard theme of new flows over old beats. In most areas it worked and got lost in the shuffle thanks to a hefty 2011 release period overall. “Katrina”, his first single from his upcoming How To Be A Player EP is painted with 70s lore and glitz thanks to Da Beatbakerz and crooner Jack Freeman who by now has fully owned the title of “soul singer whose voice fits in any era”. Flow wise, nothing has shifted downward from OFTC rather the thoughts have been fleshed out and well thought from the Biggie flip in the second verse to the fluttery rise and fall towards the end. Guess all players still need a few lessons.
