Having followed the career arc of Big K.R.I.T. for the better part of two years now, it’s quite hard coming up with more superlatives to describe Meridian, Mississippi & Def Jam’s gift of sweat drench Southern zeal. His first eye opening project was heartfelt, brutally honest that spoke to anyone currently on the verge. The second? A rider, more content and happier position. While the full verdict hasn’t been given on 4Eva N A Day, giving fans the long awaited lead single to his Def Jam debut however – writes a new chapter all together.

K.R.I.T. has long since been capable of making trunk opening anthems filled to the brim with idioms and common man themes that make us all feel like superheroes but “I Got This” reaffirms what we all knew when “Country Shit” broke through: a motivated K.R.I.T. equals a dangerous one. Driven by an objectively motivational chorus, flanged out synths and skittering snares, the single feels like revival on a Sunday afternoon. “Some times you just gotta talk to ’em, this ain’t even rappin’ what I’m about to do,” he states before launching into a sermon backed by sampled vocals and head nodding drums.

In terms of singles New York DJs should be arguing about in terms of “exclusive”, this would be the perfect one.
