Swizz Beatz In Trouble Over Megaupload
What’s more perplexing: Swizz Beatz being the CEO of file-sharing site Megaupload or that on the day half of the internet is at war with the government in terms of censorship & piracy, this story breaks?
According to the New York Post, Swizz Beatz is in hot water with Universal Music Group after a video featuring UMG artists such as Kanye West and others appeared on YouTube supporting the file sharing site. UMG has been against music piracy from the get go and asked YouTube to take down the vid citing that the performances were “unauthorized”. MU countered with a lawsuit of their own.
“We have never received any word that any artist has [individually] filed a take-down . . . [we have] legally binding agreements with the performers that appear in the video . . . They promised that they had the rights to enter into that agreement and it’s not interfering with any third-party rights.”
