Robert Glasper Experiment – Afro Blue (f. Erykah Badu)
Jazz music isn’t snobby, it’s one of the more appreciative art forms in music. The balance of songs, the way horns collide with pianos and trumpets, it’s almost erotic really. The Robert Glasper Experiment, champions of jazz and one of the few “household name” jazz bands around (aside from Esperanza Spalding’s troupe) are putting forth an LP effort entitled Black Radio and an early standout from it comes from the Erykah Badu assisted “Afro Blue”. A refreshing sight to see Badu on some jazzy instrumentation, the pianist and the singer cover a Mongo Santamaria piece that’s more commonly linked to John Coltrane.
Black Radio is set to be released on February 28th with features from Lalah Hathaway, Musiq Soulchild, Lupe Fiasco, Bilal, Mos Def, Ledisi, Meshell Ndegeocello & more including a cover of Nirvana’s “Smell Like Teen Spirit”
