Andre 3000: The 6 Verses of 2011

December 26, 2011 in Features, Top Posts

Andre 3000 is without a doubt one of the best MCs of our time. OutKast is one of the most influential hip hop groups ever, but they haven’t released an album since the Diamond-selling, double-album, Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. We have received a solo album from Big Boi, Sir Luscious Leftfoot and The Legend of Chico Dusty, but we have yet to hear an Andre 3000 solo project. The gift that has been given to us this year by 3k is he has graced us with six verses on a quite unique and different group of people. D&D has decided to compile these verses and give you the break down of each song. Let’s get it.

6. Sleazy (Remix) – Ke$ha featuring Andre 3000, Wiz Khalifa, T.I. & Lil Wayne

Best Line: I call her Keisha, she like it, because it’s hood to her/She call me Andre 6000 because I’m good to her.”

Runner-Up Line: “We started out so cute in our baby pictures/That mommy shot for our daddy so that he wouldn’t forget you.”

This is was the first verse to drop from Andre this year. The version that leaked back in January featured just him alongside the uber-popular popstar, Ke$ha. About 11 and 1/2 months later, an extended version of the song came out with the current kings of hip hop, which include: the California Kush connoisseur, Wiz Khalifa, the comeback king, T.I., and the YMCMB leader, Lil Wayne. Even on the track with these talented MCs, Dre’ still exhibits a eloquent lyrical exercise, that is a head above his fellow collaborators.

5. Party – Beyonce featuring Andre 3000

Best Line: “Kiddo say he looks up to me, this just makes me feel old/Never thought that we could become someone else’s hero/Man, we were just in the food court, eating our gyro”

Runner-Up Line: “I got a homeboy named Butta and another homeboy, that nigga named Cheese/Fuck wit’ me baby, I make it milk ’til it drip down yo’ knees.”

When the tracklist for Beyonce’s 4 album leaked, we all salivated at the fact that 3-Stacks was going to grace us with yet another verse. The Kanye-produced-cut had a nice throw back to the 1990s pop era that we seemed to forget. As great as Beyonce is (in her singing ability and in her amazing figure), she is once again outshone by Andre. Not only does Dre bring a southern slang and “playa status” to his verse, he also breaks down how it feels to be looked at as a legend in the industry.

4. Dedication To My Ex (Miss That) – Lloyd featuring Andre 3000 & Lil Wayne

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Best Line: “Hate that all of our memories happened in a Hyatt?/You were perfect before you went on a diet/You was way thicker, you think I don’t remember”

Runner-Up Line: ”I am well aware that you can bring a man to his knees/And get what you need without saying please/But can you bring a man to his feet when defeat is on repeat.”

We see Mr. Benjamin once again with Mr. Carter (get used to that by the way) but this time the soul-singing Lloyd grabs this Andre feature for his album, King of Hearts. The song tells a story, narrated by Tunechi, of a girl whose….lady parts, are very missed by Lloyd. The song tried to capitalize on that old school vibe that made Cee-Lo’s, “Fuck You”, so popular. This is my least favorite song that 3000 appeared on this year, but still very dope.

3. Interlude – Lil Wayne featuring Tech N9ne & Andre 3000

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Best Line: “Skin was cinnamon I pound it harder/How come the only girl that are thought of, are the light one?/Well tonight then we gonna do it do it for the dark ones.”

Runner-Up Line: “Today, I feel electric gray, I hope tomorrow neon black, I tell a nigga all those flows are borrowed, it’s the phar-oh, Three Stacks”

Lil Wayne got out of jail and went straight to promoting his fourth installment in Tha Carter series, Tha Carter IV. Although 3000 was not listed anywhere on the official tracklist, he made a surprise cameo along side, the abstract Tech N9ne, on a track called “Interlude”. The song did not even feature Lil Wayne, thankfully, but Andre’s verse was definitely a standout and many people I have talked to say that Dre had the best verse, not only on the song, but the entire album.

2. The Real Her – Drake featuring Lil Wayne & Andre 3000

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Best Line: “Showered her wit’ dolla tips, shawty went and bought a whip/Guarantee the city remember your whole name, you throw that hoe a scholarship.”

Runner-Up Line: “And I can tell that she wants a baby, and I can yell, girl, that you’re crazy/Aw, what the hell, nope, can’t be lazy, please be careful, bitches got the rabies.”

2011 without a doubt belongs to Drake. The former television star solidified himself as a genuine hip hop icon. His sophomore album, Take Care, is anything but a slump and it was head-and-shoulders better than his first album. Quick anecdote, Drake reached out to the star of this article for Thank Me Later but was denied, something Drizzy did must have swayed 3000′s mind, because not only did he lay down a verse on The Real Her, he laid down one of the best verses of the entire year.

1. I Do – Young Jeezy featuring Jay-Z & Andre 3000

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Best Line: “Her proud like her mother and ooohh momma’s sweet/So you just know that juicyfruit dont fall too far from the tree.”

Runner-Up Line: “So we can float up outta here in this hot air balloon/Lets put a baby butterfly up in your lil cocoon.”

Back in late 2010, a track surfaced that was said to be a snippet of a song off Andre’s debut solo album. We later found out that the track was actually intended for Young Jeezy’s TM:103. About 3 weeks ago, prior to the release of Jeezy’s album, the full-length track leaked to the internet. Jeezy is the voice of the younger generation, Jay-Z of the older generation, but Andre 3000 transcends all age gaps, and is the voice of all. I hope 2012 bring at least double the amount of songs from Andre that we heard this year, so 12, hint hint, album.
