At his slightly misogynistic, stuntastic best Hoodstar Chantz can snarl over gothic trap beats with an elevated sense of pride. You know he has an arsenal of chicks at his disposal, a penchant to lift a track for comedic purposes (see Kreayshawn’s “Gucci Gucci” here for “Take A Picture”) and the charisma to get by regardless of subject matter. Cannon (sounding a wee bit like Kendrick Lamar sans haughty lyricism) and MC Beezy who reminds us he was also on Rai P’s “Swagged Up I Be Killin’” play their roles respectively here, letting Chantz shine while also getting their shots in. Think of it as the Chicago Bulls. You have your star (a hood one for the sake of a pun) and you have solid role players to lead the to a potential best record.
