EP: Lyriciss – The Balance

The DMV is started to get a little bottlenecked with talent. Fat Trel and his brand of brooding hostility has torn down stages across the country and Inner Loop’s Lyriciss made me a believer of his DMV to stardom journey. That was more of a chance meeting at A3C and mutual respect than absolute fanaticism but that wave should rise thanks to The Balance, L’s EP series with DJ Booth.

It’s first offering, Respect only stretches for four songs but each come with a different feel and identity. There’s “Stop’s Scheming” with it’s Audio Two sampled chorus, bright piano strikes, drums & the ever ubiquitous Ray J sample, the rapid fire “Super Bad” produced by J-Scrilla with triumphant horns and vintage snares and the lead single “The Balance” which squarely puts the DMV native in his Inner Loop fatigues and refusal to be any more than a rapper with a voice.

Giving fans a small sample of music may possibly prove to be a smart move in a world where saturation usually leads to forgotten tracks. Lyriciss knows what he’s doing and by the time the second piece of the EP Money drops in early 2012, the bandwagon will see a few new fresh faces.
