Featured in an early edition of this week’s Houston Chronicle, the University of Houston announced it had obtained the record collection of Robert Davis Jr., better known to the world as DJ Screw. The collection, a mixture of East Coast/West Coast/Southern records along with mementos of Screw as well as H.A.W.K. will be on display in the school’s library beginning March 19th, 2012.

The collection was donated to the school by Screw’s father, Robert Davis Sr. An important figure in the legacy of Southern hip-hop, the younger Davis was credited with the creation of “Screw”, slowing down records to a certain BPM while adding DJ chops at particular moments of a song.
