DJ Mr. Rogers Clarifies How “1997” Beat Made Street King Brandon Caldwell July 19, 2011 News Many fans of both Dom Kennedy & Trae Tha Truth found it quite surprising that the same beat from Dom’s “1997” was also used on Trae’s Street King album. The song “Goes On” features Scarface, J-Dawg & Brian Angel carries the exact same pieces that made Dom’s cut a standout on the original From The Westside, With Love. Via Twitter, the producer of both songs DJ Mr. Rogers explained how his track wound up in the hands of two artists and used on both projects. One artist put the song out a yr ago. The other didn’t let me know it was on their album til too late. As a producer we don’t just send our beats to one artist; we shop them around to get placements. I spoke to the 2 artists about the situation when it came about and both were cool about it so we rolled wit it.
