Rapper’s are known for voicing their opinions, this is no secret. One thing I don’t like as a rapper, is when in an interview situation, I have to stick with whatever the interviewer asks. I can’t just go, and speak freely on any subject I want. So, I’ve decided to start a new weekly article here on Day & A Dream called, Rapper’s Rant. This will be a platform where an artists can finally say anything the want. Anything that peeves them about the genre, the trends, a venue that they have a problems with, another rapper that they have a had problems with, a political issue, ANYTHING. So here we go this is the Rapper’s Rant.

Ranting Rapper: Kyle Hubbard

There are a lot more things about hip-hop that piss me off than don’t, but then again that could apply to every aspect of my life. I am generally an unpleasant and angry person, but I digress. This particular rant is what pisses me off the most in the realm of hip-hop and that would have to be the word “swag”.

I know a lot of my fellow rappers are fond of the term so please don’t read too much into it, I just don’t like it. It could just be the fact that I have little to no swag myself. Perhaps hearing the word is just a bitter reminder that my own swag is swagless, but none the less I hate the word. I hate even more that it finds itself into situations that it has no right to wander into. Lately I have had conversations where I have said something that should be answered with a “cool”, “great”, “awesome”, but instead I get “swag”. How do I respond to that?

Or maybe I am just so out of touch with what’s trendy that if confuses and angers me. That is actually a freighting thought…alright I take back everything I just said and I pledge to say swag at least 15 times a day. Just know when you hear me saying the word, I am not just saying it because I WANT to look cool…I am saying it because I desperately NEED to look cool. Is that swag enough?
