My, how far we’ve grown.

With Kool Herc on the mend, the pride & joy he took time in helping form and create took center stage on Sunday as numerous ads took little elements of hip-hop in them. From Eminem’s dual commercials of Brisk & Chrysler respectively to the Black Eyed Peas coming from the ceiling at Cowboys Stadium, hip-hop was well received during the big game. While the ‘Peas performance may be up there with one of the worst, at least you can take some solace in the notion that once upon a time this was an underground group with one minor hit (Joints n’ Jam) that is now performing on the biggest stage in the world.

More poignant maybe is the Chrysler 200 ad that both showed a side of Detroit that we haven’t seen in quite sometime: pride in the auto industry, smiles, etc. Only Detroit’s favorite hell raiser could even stand in for the city of Detroit as a representation of everything the town has been through. Not to mention, Chrysler may have another urban hit on their hands with their latest vehicle.
