Corinne Bailey Rae – I’d Do It All Again (Video)
December 18, 2009 in Music Video
There was always something I enjoyed about Corinne Bailey Rae as a freshman in college. It wasn’t just looks either, but pure soul. I almost championed her the second coming of Sade (but then Sade came back and reminded me why there will only be one Sade). But tragedy sometimes begets triumph and after receiving the double whammy of losing her grandfather and then her husband Jason, I wouldn’t be surprised if Corinne just gave it all up.
Thankfully, she didn’t. This one track, from her upcoming album The Sea has meaning behind it (and a legit one to boot).
“It was written literally just after me and Jason had this massive disagreement, a big argument, a bad one,” she says now, faltering. “Almost as he was leaving the room, I just sat down and wrote it. It’s just about how I felt about him at that time. Even right in the middle of the worst times, I remember thinking that I would choose this exact life again, that I would do it all again. It was me saying, I’m not wishing myself out of this situation. I’m 100% committed to this person. I don’t have any regrets about this relationship even though there are all these difficult times.” [Guardian]
It’s quite poignant how she wrote the song only two months before his tragic passing. If Mary J. taught us anything, pain can lead to some great and soulful music. So yes, I’ll be returning to playing “Like A Star” in anticipation for her new album. You can figure the rest on corinnebaileyrae.net
