“Two Sticks Of Ham?”

There’s something about cooking and some of the women we’ve seen around television lately as chefs. Now, a few will get my watchful eye – and then there is Paula Deen. Yes, I heart Paula and her two sticks of butter in everything she wants to fix. Paula getting smashed in the face with a ham?

Priceless.

Alicia Keys – Empire State of Mind II (Live)

So, here goes Alicia going for solo live on her version of the #1 (and now overplayed) record in the country. I know the final version which will appear on her album December 15th will have Jay on it, but no worries as Ms. Keys version is somber and way more likely to be remembered by those who aren’t hip-hop fans (see those who prefer Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York” as the official anthem of New York City).

Sunday Night Sexy: ATL Edition

Still, I cannot get this slow jam out of my head. And no, I’m not talking “Pocket Full of Stones”. By the way, if you don’t get the title then you’ve obviously forgotten Lauren London’s apex (at the moment) of film.

Beanie Sigel – Think Big (Jay-Z Diss)

…And another one. Can we get back to what made you sorta-hot in the early aughts Beans? I thought you didn’t do much?

Cousin Megan – “Mirrors”

First thing I saw (besides the fact that I love whenever my cousin writes anything thought provoking or interesting) was that I kept playing this Wale song, “Diary” in my head. Probably one of the dopest tracks out right now and I put the words to the beat and it made perfect damn sense. These aren’t Brandon’s words, rather those from a woman. Pay attention.

Why I Refuse to Sit Through Precious

For all intents and purposes there has been a recent discussion at my job over which movie to see between The Blind Side (a Disney movie based on the true story of current Baltimore Raven Michael Oherr) and Precious which is based on the novel Push by Sapphire (if you happened to read that as the long title for the movie – kudos to you). Thing is, Blind Side is heart warming with Sandra Bullock bringing in a homeless teen and showing him a better life as he goes on to fame and fortune playing football.

Precious? Try the exact opposite.

Frankly, it’s probably an updated version of “The Bluest Eye” by Toni Morrison mixed in with a little Color Purple and Tyler Perry overtones and if you know anything about the three previous things I’ve mentioned then understand that nothing sweet is always found in those items. And even though I haven’t seen either film, I know I’d rather spend that outrageous $9.50 on Disney than Tyler Perry (at least for this film go-round). Well, as any blogger who has a platform to say whatever is on his mind, I gotta list my reasons for not even wanting to see this “great” film.

Wale – Beast

Even though Mr. Folarin sold only 28K the first week, there’s been a lot of news as into what went wrong. Personally? If your label claims they shipped 30 and your album was looked at as one of the albums to watch for hip-hop wise in 2009, shame on you label.

Throwback Friday: When It Was All Good Edition

Dipset. 2003.

Back when Killa had everyone in pink, throwback jerseys and some lackadaisical lyricism. Frankly, I could give a care less because I had my pink button up and Diplomats albums like nothing. Yes, this was a movement whether you like to admit it or not and with news of Cam effectively ending one of the best crews in recent memory, I take you to what I believed were their apex – Cam’s turn on the Roc and this video right here.

The Egyptian One: Resentment

Disclaimer: I know this isn’t as organized as my other blogs have been, and I apologize if it’s hard to follow. I was writing very sporadically.

“I thought I could forgive you and I know you’ve changed
As much as I wanna trust you, I know it ain’t the same
And it’s all because you lied”

Everybody makes mistakes. Everyone has their fcuk-ups and everyone has their bad days. Nobody’s perfect.

I will be the first to say that I’ve had my share of mess-ups. I’ve done many things in the past that I’m not particularly proud of, as has everyone else. I’ve alienated people I love, I’ve alienated myself, and I’ve made negative choices that affect the people around me, as has everyone else. However, I’ve learned from my mistakes and I make sure I don’t repeat them. I grow as a person, as has everyone else.. right?

“Would I Pack Up My Bags & Leave This World Behind…”

There’s something about this track from Nas’ God’s Son album in 2003 that just speaks to me every time I hear it. I don’t know if it’s the Jully Black chorus or Nas lyricism or maybe a combination of both, but in the brief period of being slightly depressed and sick, it’s always something interesting to listen to.

End of An Era

I can hear women everywhere running for the hills, and also to Tyra Banks Show. It was a great run Harpo, you gave us plenty of moments to laugh and cry and recently, even porn stars. Maybe you can finally break Stedman off a piece? Ah, who are we kidding.

Why Did I Get Married Too? [Trailer]

Arguably Tyler Perry’s best non-Madea movie gets a sequel. Let’s see how this turns out.

Winner for the longest title I’ve ever written on this site obviously. Cons gets his Grammy Family brethern to hop on the remix to his underrated track, Whatever U Want.
