Wrapping Insecurity

Chalk this one up to weird thoughts while at a Pizza Hut.

While getting one of those giant wing dinners since my father decidedly had one of the weirdest cravings ever (I’m swearing on nine lives that he’s the male version of pregnant) in wanting hot wings. Not a regular order neither, about 30 wings plus. So instead of waiting on them to deliver, I hop in my jalopy and drive on down 2234 to get the wings.

When I saw the girl behind the counter I noticed two things: the tattoo on the front of her wrist with the now generic motif of some random noun & a star and two, that she was well – “hood cute”.

By the way, “hood cute” refers to being a 6 on terms of saying you’d be a dime in Sharpstown but I wouldn’t take you to the Galleria because your eyes would be bigger than my wallet. In other words – Keyshia Cole.

Back to reality, after asking about my order (which was damn near thirty bucks) I even asked her, “Why are you here on a Saturday night?”

“To make the money,” she replied.

Now, it wasn’t a bad answer because at least she was trying to better herself by working as opposed to tossing her $10 away at a club for three hours of music, two hours of harassment and one actual hour of fun. It was that she was like that weird diamond in the rough – a slightly hood chick working at your local pizzeria trying to make something better of herself.

And then it dawned on me. How many people have actually said no go to hollerin’ at someone just because of their job title? I mean, brother could be working the fires at McDonalds or find himself pushing carts at Academy and yet, you wouldn’t give him the time of day. Is it their fault really? I mean, he/she’s not ordained to get a better job off of mere principal but best believe – there are some jobs out there that a lot of men/women do that you wouldn’t – and yet our insecurities just refuse that.

Sometimes, you have to accept the short things about great people because even though they might work a McJob, best believe they are at least bringing home something decent over the drug dealer/gold digger who refuses to do the right things and simply try to coast.

Also known as those sorry ass aggins who refuse to be regular ass aggins.
