In a case of life actually meeting the stereotype, I heard this little gem during my probation meeting today.

Officer: “So where did you go to High School again?”

Me: “Thurgood Marshall.”

Officer: “Probation High?”

The fact that I know so many people from my high school that graduated to being full time felons is kind of scary and that somehow it turned into a smogesboard of misconduct, academics and overall black life tells me – what did I exactly learn in High School? Was it to understand how the world worked on a foundation level or was it to just accept that people were going to follow the trends set before them and not necessarily make a new one?

I’d like to believe the majority decided to take matters into their own hands and carve their own niche. Keyword: like
